My Day at the Ranch

It started out

 so calm, so clear.

I had no doubts,

no dreads, no fear.

I would spend the day

To my content

With sunshine, beer,

And merriment.

I partook of breakfast

With some friends.

Made some commitments

Without open ends.

The next thing I know

I’m playing in sand

Raking and tossing,

And doing it again.

(and again and again and again)

It was a hard battle.

I tossed a few.

Alas we  were vanquished.

You all know by who!

That was not the least

Of this mornings menace.

It seems I’d signed up,

To play somebody tennis.

I was seeded twelfth and

I thought it was mean.

I had to play number two.

Instead of thirteen.

 It didn’t really matter

I shrugged it all off.

Cause I knew I could beat them

At miniature golf.

(bobs gonna build the course next year)

I decided to hike

A wilderness trail.

After playing with balls

And losing my tail.

I walked a trail

It seemed would not end.

Then I wandered into

Mountain Air Glenn.

He explained how I may

Relieve all my strife.

Sniff pine trees, eat mushrooms,

And get high on life.

 I left the morns baggage

Up on that hill.

Came down to the pool

Intending to chill.

I peered at the pool

And to my delight.

The pool was blue

And the bottom in sight.

I looked for a lounge

To put all my stuff.

Which wasn’t much

When you hike in the buff.

All I could find

And to my surprise

Was a chair in NO SMOKING

Wasn’t that nice.

I decided to take it

Without regrets.

After all I quit smoking.

Between cigarettes.

I stretched in my lounge

Cracked open a beer.

When to my dismay

Rain clouds would appear.

They wouldn’t stay long

Or so I thought.

But they were determined

To end any drought.

When it all passed

I was happy to see

 lounge chairs were empty

Vacant and free.

The guest were all leaving,

Some fast and some quick.

They didn’t need a shower

 as bad as did Rick.

Then it dawned on me!

Every mans fear.

‘T was still early evening

And I’m out of beer.

So quickly I donned

My woven textiles

And sped down deer creek

Six treacherous miles.

I ran over a squirrel,

A bicyclist, or two.

Arrived at the beer store,

And picked up my brew.

Got back to the ranch.

It seems just in time.

The band started playing,

And they sounded fine.

I thought I might dance

With a girl at this ball.

Wouldn’t you know

I danced with them all!

But that’s not the end

Of this story my friend.

Next morning I got up

And did it again.

(and again and again and again)
